The engine requires two types of raw materials for operation: gasoline and air. Gasoline is purchased by us, added to the car's fuel tank, filtered by the fuel supply system, and then sent to the engine's combustion chamber for combustion with air. 1. How does air enter the engine?
When the engine is working, it is divided into four strokes, one of which is the intake stroke. During this stroke, the engine piston descends, creating a vacuum in the intake pipe, which sucks air into the engine's combustion chamber and mixes with gasoline for combustion.
So, can the air around us directly supply the engine? The answer is no. We know that engines are very precise mechanical products that require strict cleanliness of raw materials. The air contains a certain amount of impurities, which can cause damage to the engine. Therefore, the air must be filtered before entering the engine. This device is an air filter, commonly known as an air filter element.
2. What is the function of an air filter?
The engine needs to inhale a large amount of air during operation. If the air is not filtered, the dust suspended in the air is sucked into the cylinder, which will accelerate the wear of the piston group and cylinder, and larger particles will enter between the piston and cylinder. It can cause serious "cylinder pulling" phenomenon, especially in dry and sandy working environments. The air filter is installed in front of the carburetor or intake pipe to filter out dust and sand particles in the air, ensuring sufficient and clean air entering the cylinder.
Among the thousands of components in a car, the air filter is a very inconspicuous component because it is not directly related to the technical performance of the car. However, in the actual use of the car, the air filter, especially the engine, has a significant impact on its service life. On the one hand, if the air filter does not have a filtering effect, the engine will inhale a large amount of air containing dust and particles, causing severe wear of the engine cylinders; On the other hand, if the air filter is not maintained for a long time during use, the filter element of the vacuum cleaner will be filled with dust in the air, which not only reduces the filtering ability, but also hinders air circulation, leading to a rich mixture and abnormal engine operation. Therefore, regular maintenance of air filters is essential.
